A feeble attempt to be the next Internet sensation

My friend, Harold and I go way back. We’ve known each other since 6th grade but we didn’t had the time to catch up after grade school graduation. We crossed paths again after finishing college and kept in touch through Facebook and BBM along with our other childhood friends since then.

Now the thing that surprised me with this guy is that he actually sings well. He can easily belt out a Guy Sebastian or anything to that level—and the guy didn’t even take formal voice lessons! Unbelievable.

A few weeks back, we toyed at the thought of doing an acoustic cover. He’ll do vocals, naturally, and I’ll do guitar duties. It was a loose plan that went on for days until we decided to skip work one day and just do it.

So after deciding to film inside his bathroom (for a guy, he keeps a pretty spotless toilet), propping up his bedroom lamp for a touch of ehem.. nice lighting, throwing in a couple of bean bag chairs, a quick run-through, and a thousand takes, this is the end result:

Err.. Not at our finest, I must admit. And like what I have posted on Facebook, we’re not professionals so bawal mag-judge!

All that singing and strumming all day made us crave for some yummy lemon chicken. So before driving home, we stopped by at a North Park branch somewhere in Makati. Yes, we were too starved to figure out where exactly we were.

I must say that this was such a fun and gratifying experience. It felt good to do something out of the usual office-home routine. I highly suggest you guys give it a try–It’ll make you sane, I swear!

So if you’re corporate burnouts like Harold and I, push yourself to re-engage with the things you love doing. Don’t work too much—life isn’t supposed to be like that. It’s supposed to be spent with the people you love and the things that make you feel alive. Think about it.

Stay safe, kids!

Now Playing: Blurry – Puddle of Mudd

I’ve always dreamed of playing my guitar in front of a massive audience. Yung tipong wasted na yung mga tao and everyone’s going wild. My choice of piece would be this:

*Favorite line: Everyone is changing / there’s no one left that’s real / to make up your own ending / and let me know just how you feel

Blurry is one of my all-time favorite alternative rock songs dating way back in 2002. I was just a high school sophomore and I already listened to this. My parents almost went berserk whenever I play songs of such type. Para daw akong lalake because I like really loud music. Haha.

Oh well, I turned out okay so I guess they absolutely have nada to worry about.

Is that a smoking wabbit?

Or more specifically, a weed-smoking hare?

I was at Park Square, Makati last night to look at laptops when I decided to stop by JB Music to shop for a new guitar pick. Among the others that are waiting in those little plastic compartments the two old lads at the shop showed me, this one took my fancy: It doesn’t bend too much when strummed and melds just right with any type of string. Perfect.

Apparently, the smoking rabbit is a Frank Kozik design. He’s an artist who’s work was graphically compelling as well as culturally gripping. Kozik has hundreds of full-color, limited edition, silk screened posters under his belt for such renowned artists as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Beastie Boys.

I know, I Google-d. Here’s his site.

I like my smoking rabbit. Cute but not too cute. The second graphic on the first row kinda reminds me of one of the singing vultures in the Disney cartoon, The Jungle Book.

Overall, it’s not the design that matters to me. As long as it does my strumming jobs well, then I’m good. Though it doesn’t hurt if it does have a kickass look.

Let the rocking commence!

Day 10 – Songs I listen to when you I'm happy, sad, bored, hyped, mad etc.

It’s my birthday week, you guys! If you have been paying attention to this extremely silly blog of mine, I have been incredibly late in posting my entries. It’s a good thing I don’t have an editor as strict as Miranda Priestly; No one to rush me to meet deadlines! Ah, the joys of keeping a personal blog.

Anyway, on to the challenge! My little third generation iPod Nano (Remind me to name her. Yes, it’s a girl.) accompanies me wherever I go. In fact, it has become part of me, I feel naked when I forget my iPod at home.

Because I am moody as the Philippine  weather, I always put my iPod on shuffle. I play songs whichever fit my liking at that moment. But it’s usually:

Eraserheads, Paramore, Slipknot, Parokya ni Edgar etc. when I feel rocking my brains out.

Timbaland, T-Pain, Flo-rida, Justin Timberlake, and the like when I need some perking up in the morning and sleepy afternoons.

Usher, Trey Songz, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, and such when I just want to chill out.

How ’bout you? What songs do you listen to? Maybe we have something in common.
